(980) OAK Athletics vs (979) DET Tigers
Pick: Take Under
Analysis: Oakland is a great pitcher’s park, which has helped the A’s to the second best pitching staff in the AL this season. Of course, the down side is their offense isn’t very good, which is why they are 34-13 under the total at home! Detroit comes to town with an ace in Justin Verlander (11-3) for this game. Make that a pair of aces, as Oakland counters with Dan Haren (12-3, 2.42 ERA). All of which makes this another low scoring tilt in Oakland. Play the Tigers/A’s under the total!

(926) CLE Indians vs (925) TEX Rangers
Pick: Take (925) TEX Rangers
Analysis: Texas lefty John Rheinecker has been very effective, with a 3.18 ERA. He keeps the ball down, which is essential in hitter’s parks like Texas and Jacobs Field in Cleveland. Indians starter Paul Byrd is a huge favorite here, but he is very hittable, with a 4.40 ERA allowing 150 hits in 120 innings. And Texas can hit, offering great wagering value on the dog. Play the Rangers!

(958) ATL Braves vs (957) HOU Astros
Pick: Take (958) ATL Braves
Analysis: Get set to cash in with another of Dave’s dynamite $10 specials. He’s isolated a strong underdog that’s there for the taking tonight and it’s a steal at just ten bucks. Make the call to 1-888-389-7223 anytime Tuesday and get set to collect another big winner!…”My free play forays into big price favorite land have been few and far between. Fortunately, the record on these plays when I do take the plunge and lay substantial odds has been outstanding. I’ll go that route tonight in the Houston-Atlanta contest. The Astros are horrid on the road and I can’t see them doing significant damage against Braves lefty Chuck James, who’s in solid form right now. I also think the Braves have to be pumped up with addition of Mark Teixeira to their lineup and should come out fired up and ready to make a statement tonight. So I’m on Atlanta in the home chalk mode this evening.”

I mean John David Booty—do you like him? The best QB in the QB-rich PAC-10? Probably. Heisman Trophy winner? Quite possibly. The ability to lead USC to a national championship? He has it.Booty has a few things going for him. There’s the obvious stuff, such as his 61.7% completion rate, 29 touchdowns to nine interceptions [...]

(908) SEA Mariners vs (907) LA Angels
Pick: Take (908) SEA Mariners
Analysis: Dave scored another winner with his Sunday top play as the Phillies cruised past the hapless Pirates. Monday’s best bet is at Dave’s Pure Gold Club right now, and it’s discounted to half the regular price, just $25. Score it now!… “Both the Angels and Mariners really enjoyed the weekend, with each team scoring a home sweep. That’s a great setup for this crucial series. Kelvim Escobar is having a great year for the Halos and should have been an All Star. But his worst effort of the year was at Safeco, and the Angels are only a .500 team on the road. Meanwhile, the Mariners are a superb 33-19 at home and Miguel Batista has been a very reliable performer that keeps his team in the game almost every start and allows that outstanding Mariners pen to close things out. I see plenty of value here in taking the home dog, so the Mariners are the choice.”

Here are some things to look at when you’re considering the upcoming NFL season.Cleveland Browns: They now have QB Brady Quinn. Can the former Notre Dame star shine in the NFL? I think that this kid can. He’s smart, athletic and is driven. As he improves and performs so too does this team. With Romeo [...]

(902) CHI Cubs vs (901) PHI Phillies
Pick: Take (902) CHI Cubs
Analysis: Excellent pitching matchup here on Monday as the Phillies Cole Hamels faces off against the Cubs’ Ted Lilly. Hamesl, 11-5 (3.63 era), has already beaten the Cubs this year with a seven inning, seven hit, two earned run performance. The one concern is that Hamels isn’t performing quite as good recently as he’s won just two of his last five decisions. Lilly’s numbers are almost identical to that of Hamels, as he’s 11-4 with a 3.46 era on the season. However, where Hamels has struggled of late, Lilly has been very good. Not only is Lilly 6-0 in his last six starts, but he’s only allowed 11 earned runs in those contests. Very small price to lay here at home with Lilly. We’ll do just that as we go with the Cubs on Monday.
